No formal resignation from Reid, says Chang
General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party Dr Horace Chang has said that despite reports elsewhere in the media that Ruel Reid has demitted office as caretaker for St Ann North Western, he is not in receipt of a formal resignation letter.
Chang told the Jamaica Observer last evening that Reid communicated his intention to step down as caretaker for the constituency via messaging platform WhatsApp.
St Ann North Western is represented in Parliament by the Opposition People’s National Party Member of Parliament Dr Dayton Campbell.
Reid, a former senator and Minister of Education, has been embroiled in a scandal alleging corruption at the education ministry and several agencies under its purview, including Caribbean Maritime University and the National Education Trust.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has indicated that he is the subject of investigations by its Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch, which includes the Financial Investigations Division and the Fraud Squad.
Reid resigned from the Cabinet in March.
