#Doha2019: Jamaica’s Jackson wins bronze as Bahamas’ Miller-Uibo beaten in women’s 400 metres
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson won bronze in the women’s 400 metres at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Thursday, Oct 3.
With winner Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain and second-placed Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas well ahead, Jackson held off the challenges of the other rivals to capture the bronze in a personal best of 49.47 seconds.
Favourite Miller-Uibo, held back on her usual fast start, with Naser making use of the opportunity to take the lead coming into the homestretch. Miller-Uibo chased unsuccessfully for the final 100 metres but the smooth-running Naser maintained her form to the end.
Naser ran a world-leading 48.14 seconds with Miller-Uibo doing 48.37. Naser’s time was the third-fastest ever with Miller’s being the sixth fastest.
Jamaica’s other representative in the event, Stephenie-Ann McPherson, finished sixth in 50.89 seconds.
