Kemar Leslie secures back-to-back win at CUMI Run
The 11th annual CUMI 10K and 5K Run/Walk held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Tryall Club in Sandy Bay, Hanover, saw Rainforest Seafoods’ Kemar Leslie retain his 10K run title with a strong finish of 37:44 minutes, only 2:23 minutes slower than his 2018 performance.
He was followed by Courtney Jarett (41:47 minutes), while Troy Pennington of Rainforest Seafoods closed out the top three in 43:49 minutes. Rainforest’s winnings, however, did not stop there.
They showed dominance in the 5K run with a clean sweep of the top three places in the male category, while taking the top spots in both the female master’s category and the 16 & under male category. Rainforest Seafoods also acquired third place in the 10K male run category and the coveted Team Championship title.
The run/walk was staged to raise money for the day-to-day operations of the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI), located in St James.
Wrapping up the 10K run results, Rochelle Smalling of Palladium Pacers topped the female category, stopping the clock at 54:37 minutes; Karlene Blagrove of Pacers placed second in 57:59 minutes, and Jolene Dyer of VM Wealth Management placed third in 1:01:09 hours.
In the 5K run category, Team Rainforest Seafoods showed up and showed out as members Tyrese Reid took first place in 17:21 minutes; Garth Abbutt, second in 18:25 minutes, and Brandon Kerr rounded up the top three in a time of 18:34 minutes.
Ingrid Blackwood of UCT Steppas finished first in a time of 26:35 minutes in the female 5K run category, followed by Caven Boothe of Fontana Pharmacy in a time of 28:00 minutes, while Margaritaville’s Latoya Ellington clocked 28:35 minutes to earn third place.
In the 5K walk, Sasha-Kay Haughton and Lenworth Burke clocked 41:12 minutes and 34:46 minutes to top the female and male categories, respectively, while call centre operator Conduent Inc copped the trophy for largest participating team.
