Sean Paul to receive national honour on Heroes Day
International dancehall artiste Sean Paul is among
the 143 Jamaican citizens who will be honoured by the Government on Heroes Day,
October 21.
Sean Paul, whose real name is Sean Henriques, will
receive the Order of Distinction, Commander Class (CD), for his contribution to
the global popularity and promotion of reggae music.
The entertainer broke on to the Jamaican music scene
in 1994, but his career took off internationally in the 2000s. In 2004, he won his
first Grammy award for his second debut studio album, Dutty Rock, which sold more than six million copies. Dutty
Rock features international hits such as Gimmie The Light and Get Busy.
During his decades in music, Sean Paul has done
features with several international acts, including Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland,
Dupa Lipa, Eve and Estelle. He even tapped into the Latin market when he did
the remix for one of the biggest Latin hits, Bailando, with Enrique Iglesias, as well as Contra La Pared with Latin superstar J Balvin.
And, in August, Sean Paul was nominated in the ‘Favorite Crossover Artiste’ category in the 2019 Latin American Music Awards. The award show will take place three days after he is honoured in Jamaica.
