Inner Circle flies out of rioting Santiago in time to collect OD at King’s House
Members of the Jamaican reggae band Inner Circle nearly missed being at King’s House on Monday (Oct 21) to collect their Order of Distinction due to fiery riots in the Chilean capital Santiago.
While banks, supermarkets and metro stations were being set ablaze by masked rioters, the band managed to leave Santiago on a flight to Miami. From there they boarded a flight to Jamaica for the National Honours and Awards ceremony.
“It took us 18 hours from Chile to reach here, and we arrived in Kingston at 7.30 a.m. today and drove straight to King’s House for this ceremony,” Ian Lewis told BUZZ at King’s House.
The family-led band members were in time to collect their Order of Distinction (Officer Class) award from the Governor-General, Sir Patrick Allen, some two hours later. The award was for their 50 years’ contribution to Jamaica’s reggae music, and the brothers were grateful for the recognition.
“We are happy to be here to collect
this honour, and we look forward to celebrating the award on Thursday night,”
Ian added.
The band will bein Jamaica until Friday (Oct 25), and will be celebrating their 50th anniversary at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston, on Thursday night, starting at 6pm.
