ICWI Pink Run ready for the start line
Organisers of the 2019 ICWI/Reach to Recovery Pink Run say they are ready for the large contingent of supporters from both private and public sectors who expected to converge at the Emancipation Park on Sunday, October 27.
With the planning in high gear for the 19th staging of the Run, Vice-President of Marketing, Distribution and Human Resources at ICWI and Chairperson of the Pink Run Planning Committee, Samantha Samuda is lauding Jamaicans for their support of the 5k road race which raises well-needed funds for the Jamaica Cancer Society’s support arm, Jamaica Reach to Recovery.
“I am inspired by the overwhelming support this year from individuals, groups and organisations this year; their participation will go a long way to assist persons affected by breast cancer,” said Samuda.
“Every year we are building awareness, encouraging more women to get checked, and helping those who have been inflicted. The enormous support this year is a true testament that ‘Jamaica cares’ and more and more Jamaicans are aware of the effects that breast cancer has not only on the patient but the devastating impact it has on so many families.”
Race Director Alfred “Frano” Francis, of Running Events Jamaica, expressed confidence that participants will take part in a well-organised event with so many fun elements to look forward to.
“Warm-up exercises begin at 6:00 am and we are encouraging everyone to come out early as the race goes off at exactly 6:30 am. We will have exciting features at the Run such as misting stations and pink powder stations along the route that the family can enjoy,” he said.
Patrons can expect performances from Voicemail, Kemar Highcon and Alaine in the Park. Individuals and groups are encouraged to showcase their pink creativity with their outfits as there will be prizes for the best-dressed team and individual.
In-person registration closed on Thursday. However, last minute registrations may be facilitated online at runningeventsja.com through to 9:00 am on Saturday, October 26. Race packets will be available for pick up at the ICWI Pink Run Secretariat located at Toyota Jamaica at 93 Old Hope Road in Kingston Friday, October 25 between 11:00am to 5:00pm, or on Saturday, October 26 from 11:00am – 2:00pm.
