Security guard being questioned after colleague shot dead
CORAL SPRING, Trelawny — A security guard has been taken into police custody in connection with the death of his colleague with whom he had an altercation yesterday while on duty at the under-construction H10 Ocean Coral Spring — the new US$250-million, 1,000-room Spanish hotel chain property in Trelawny.
The deceased has been identified as Akeem Williams, 23, of a Grants Pen address in St Andrew.
Williams was employed to KJSL Security Company, while the security guard who has been taken into custody is reportedly employed to another security company.
According to head of the Trelawny Police Division, Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, the two uniformed security guards were on duty about 1:00 am when an altercation developed between them.
An explosion was heard and the police were called. Upon their arrival, the police found Williams, who had a gunshot wound.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police have subsequently seized a weapon and taken the alleged shooter into custody for questioning.
Members of the Criminal Investigations Branch at Falmouth Police Station are probing the shooting.
H10 Ocean Coral Spring, upon completion, will consist of two five-star all-inclusive hotels and several entertainment and gastronomic facilities.
