Hyde demands more from championship-chasing Clarendon College

An almost effortless performance on Saturday saw reigning DaCosta Cup champions Clarendon College ease to a 3-0 win over current holders Cornwall College in the semi-finals of the ISSA Champions Cup inside the National Stadium.

After a goalless first half, Clarendon College breached the defense of their rivals eight minutes after the restart through their talisman Roderick Granville who doubled his tally and his team’s lead 15 minutes later to put them on the way to their first final in the competition.

Tajay Williams put the icing on the cake a minute from time as the team from Chapleton booked their spot in the second final of the season.

It was one way traffic for most of the game and almost déjà vu for Clarendon College who had similar first- half difficulties against an ultra-defensive McGrath High earlier in the week. .

Lenworth Hyde’s team has shown patience in the business end of the season with a slick passing game that has set tongues wagging after each masterful performance.

But even though they have disposed of their last two opponents by a combined aggregate score of 6-0, after they beat McGrath High 3-0 in the DaCosta Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, Hyde is eyeing more improvements for his team.

“I love how we finished the game and it shows that we are in physically good shape, but I am not pleased with how we played,” he said, clearly demanding more from his young charges.

“In the first half we played in patches and we want to try and get those patches together when we look good and try and get a near perfect game, so that’s what I am looking for,” Hyde explained.

The man, who guided his alma mater back to the pinnacle of schoolboy football last year, believes that his players have in them what he requires.

“I know it’s in the players to come out its just them have to be composed and calm and it will come out. They are too excited in the final third,” said Hyde.

Clarendon College will face 2017 winners Kingston College, who defeated Jamaica College 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 regulation time draw in the second semi-final on Saturday.
