MAJOR BLOW: Death of playwright Paul O. Beale shocks industry
Popular playwriter
and actor Paul O. Beale died recently after suffering what most believe to be a
heart attack.
It is said that the 57-year-old was working on two plays at the time of his untimely death – Melcita and the Plummer and Rasta Wedding Proposal. BUZZ also understands that it was after a rehearsal for one of these plays that he fell ill.
Beale, who
created the popular ‘Delcita’ character, has a history of illness, as a few years
ago, he suffered a stroke. Luckily, he made a full recovery and was back at
work.
Playwright
and actress Dahlia Harris said that his passing comes as a shock.
“Paul O
Beale. Writer, Director, Producer, Actor extraordinaire RIP sir. You beat death
once before but this time … shocked. This one is a major blow,” she said
on Twitter.
Beale played ‘Big Pants’ in the ‘Granny Rule’ series. He wrote several plays and he also wrote for television, including a show called Joint Tenants, which was aired on TVJ.
Beale’s
death follows that of fellow playwright and director Ashton Cooke, who had died
in February. He was 61 at the time of his death.
