Hyundai makes magic

Texaco Jamaica closed off its Texaco Centenary Cash Bonanza Promotion last Thursday when it handed over the grand prize, a 2019 Hyundai Tuscon, to David Dalling at the Hyundai Showroom, New Kingston.

“When I got the call on November 13 from Miss Kareen Cox, I was like, is this for real. I went on Instagram, put in GB Energy, looked her up on the Internet, found out she was who she said she was, at which point I felt it had to be true,” Dalling told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.

For Dalling, the win couldn’t have come at a better time.

“When I entered this promotion, I didn’t even want to enter, but the pump attendant persuaded me to enter. He was very convincing, so I said: ‘You know what, let me enter’ and I purchased $5,000 worth of gas at the Texaco Braeton Station in Portmore,” he explained.

Once given the code, it took him three times to get confirmation of entry as he’d had done the wrong entry process the first two times. As an employee at a distribution company, Dalling needs a vehicle for his livelihood and had unfortunately lost his car to theft.

“Last year was a rough year for me. They stole my car up by Liguanea and I had a rough time with my job. My job is a travelling job and I had to be back and forth with public transportation, borrowing vehicles, putting gas in vehicles every day, which cost me a lot,” he said.

The Texaco Centenary Cash Bonanza Promotion ran for 100 days islandwide, from August 1 to November 8, in celebration of the brand’s 100 years in Jamaica. The promotion saw 500 person win each $20,000 each.

“The response to the promotion was incredible,” said Bela Szabo, CEO — GB Energy/Texaco Jamaica.

George Simpson, retail manager — GB Energy/Texaco Jamaica, echoed Szabo’s comment expanding that the promotion met all its goals of increasing traffic to its stations and educating customers on its products while thanking them for using Texaco. Further gains were made in building relationships with the communities that the Texaco stations are located in and their various suppliers. Simpson went on to announce at the event that GB Energy/Texaco Jamaica would partner with the Ministry of Education, donating $1 million to its National Mathematics Programme. Ten schools across the island will receive $100,000 each towards the building of a Mathematics lab.

Szabo said the company was not done yet with its promotional efforts and that fuel consumers should look out for bigger and better things next year.
