After a runaway win in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup, the Anthony Nunes-conditioned Toona Cilaita returns to take on rivals in what should be another easy romp in The Gladiator Trophy at Caymanas Park tomorrow.

The Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and upwards is set to be contested over seven furlongs (1,400m) for a total purse of $1.15 million.

Below is an analysis of the eight runners down to take part.

CAMPESINO: (9-y-o b g – Compadre – Yaella) – Veteran campaigner who seems to have lost his way and is down to run two days in a row which is unheard of, especially by a horse coming from the camp of trainer Philip Feanny.

FAYROUZ: (4-y-o ch f – Blue Pepsi Lodge – Princess Geeta) – Useful filly who was fourth behind stable companion Toona Ciliata in the recent Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m). Faces Toona Ciliata once again and turning the tables is highly unlikely but she will earn.

BRUCE WAYNE: (5-y-b g – Nuclear Wayne – Xpress Card) – Was a winner on last and now stepping up to compete, Bruce Wayne will not repeat against his more talented stablemate, Toona Ciliata, but has a good chance of taking the second slot.

EXHILARATE: (4-y-o ch f – Blue Pepsi Lodge – Purejoy) – Ran a blinder on last to finish in third place by 6 ¼ lengths behind She’s A Maneater and Stranger Danger in the Pick-3 Supreme Trophy over six furlongs (1,200m) on November 30. Exhilarate might find seven furlongs difficult but is going to set the pace in this one before eventually faltering in the straight.

SUPERLUMINAL: (7-y-o b h – Natural Selection – Thousand Hills) – Was not disgraced in the recent Diamond Mile when he finished in sixth place. Superluminal is back among Open Allowance company and this tough campaigner who is always giving of his best could prove to be the only threat to Toona Ciliata.

DONTAE: (5-y-o b h – Fearless Vision – Eighteen Karat) – Disappointed on last in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup but Dontae, based on previous runs, can get in the mix without actually winning.

HOUDINI’S MAGIC: (7-y-o dkb h – Performing Magic – Milestone) – Not the horse he once was as Houdini’s Magic continues to struggle in his races. From 16 starts this season, Houdini’ Magic has won only once and a winning run here is unlikely for this tough horse.

TOONA CILIATA: (3-y-o ch g – Soul Warrior – Red Gold) – Talented three-year-old who has demonstrated that he is the best of the current crop even with his stable companion Supreme Soul being crowned the Triple Crown champion. Every race that Toona Ciliata competes in, he shows improvement and is setting up himself for a good career against the big horses next year. Toona Ciliata was a 4 ¾-length winner in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup over 9 furlongs and 25 yards on November 27 in a decent time of 1:53.3, which was just outside of the Stakes record of 1:52.1. With little to fear from these, Toona Ciliata should bag another trophy here and earn the first place purse for his trainer.
