Western Confed Super League takes it to next level
MONTEGO BAY, St James — For the first time a game in the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation/ Charley’s JB Rum Super League will be broadcast live to local and international audiences on a weekly basis.
At yesterday’s media launch at the Grand-A-View Restaurant and Events Place on Queens Drive, Dr Rose-Ann Green, television manager for Cornwall Broadcasting Company, said games will be shown live on Mello TV and aired on Mello FM and will be shown in several Caribbean territories and Canada as well.
The league – that will see three former Premier League champions in Montego Bay United, Wadadah FC and FC Reno and a fourth team with recent Premier League experience Sandals South Coast – kicks off on Sunday.
According to Confederation president Gregory Daley, the “expectations for this year exceeds those of the past with so many good teams taking part, this can only serve to lift the standard of the league”. Daley said that the partnership with Mello was also “an opportunity to show off the product”.
“The players, the clubs and even the referees [will be seen] by a much wider audience and we must put our best foot forward,” said St James Fa boss. Dr Green said her company was “excited to be part of the competition” and said the games can also be seen on the Mello Application anywhere in the world.
“Sports is a huge thing and we are very excited to be coming on board with the Confederation in this effort,” she told the Jamaica Observer. “Jamaica is known for sports and this gives us another opportunity to show off the best of the country.” The league will kick off on Sunday with a double-header at Jarrett Park.
