Joli Faire @chineykpopgirl

“So honoured to be featured on the list of Top entrepreneurs to follow by the New York Finance , @jolifairehair (Jolifaire everything) is my brand and there’s no limits on where I’m going with it! I couldn’t do it without you guys supporting me. I appreciate you all.” — Kerry-Ann Collins

Tuesday Style Dryer (TSD) is equally elated about New York Finance magazine’s nod to the Jamaican-American entrepreneur and digital influencer. Hers is an interesting story. TSD tracks her success.

In 2015 when her younger sister inspired her to ‘go natural’, Jamaican-American Kerry-Ann Collins didn’t know much about transitioning from processed to natural hair. What she did experience first-hand, however, was how difficult it was to find a product that gave her hair the desired look. But Collins, who is no stranger to challenges, went into research mode and quickly turned her woes into success.

Joli Faire Organics was launched in 2018, following a trip to India. She initially visited the subcontinent to launch her YouTube series On My Mind but became intrigued with the natural hair care products used by the locals (this was during her infamous blue and blonde hair phase). “I was in Mumbai, and I went to the village and talked to the men and women to see what they used, and found out they’d been using the ayurvedic methods for years,” Collins shared while on a recent Instagram Live with Jamaica Observer Senior Associate Editor — Lifestyle & Social Content Novia McDonald-Whyte. She formulated and bottled her growth oil while there.

Now her Hair Growth Hair Nourishing Oil is touted as a go-to product to achieve ultimate hair goals. Specially formulated with organic ayurvedic plants and oils that have been used for centuries in India, the oil helps to promote healthier hair.

Born with a knack for creating, Collins traces her love for the arts to her early years at Wolmer’s High School, where she excelled in language arts and drama. She moved to the United States in the 9th grade, completed her secondary education, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in communications and media studies from William Paterson University of New Jersey. Collins enjoyed early success working in radio, raking up a host of accolades and awards but was unfulfilled. In 2015, she enrolled at the California State University, Northridge where she continued her studies, this time getting even more specific in her interests, focusing on cinematography and film production.

The transition from school to the professional world would be a tough one filled with plenty of rejection. Still not deterred, Collins bought a camera, which she used to document her daily activities. Her On My Mind series premiered on YouTube and was an instant hit!

By mid-2017, Collins had reinvented herself — Chiney K Pop girl — focusing almost exclusively on social media, assisting premium Caribbean brands and local celebrities to increase their visibility and sales. Chiney K credits American entrepreneur and co-founder of the Movietime channel, which later became E! Entertainmenttelevision, Alan Mruvka as a mentor who taught her a lot about the entertainment industry. Today she helms Joli Faire Beauty, and Joli Faire Media Group, all while continuing to push her baby, Joli Faire Hair.

Joli Faire Hair is global, with plans to further expand as Collins continues to invest heavily in research and development.
