‘Hubby’ charged with sexual assault, robbery
ST JAMES, Jamaica — A man who allegedly posed as a taxi operator and robbed a woman before sexually assaulting her on Gautby Road, Montego Bay, St James in 2019, has been charged by the police.
O’Brian Smart, who is otherwise called ‘Hubby’ is now facing the charges of robbery with aggravation, abduction, grievous sexual assault and indecent assault following the incident.
The police said he was assisted by another man who was posing as a passenger in the taxi.
According to official reports, Smart was driving a motor car posing as a taxi operator along with the other man posing as a passenger when they picked up a 20-year-old woman. On reaching a section of the road, Smart reportedly pulled what appeared to be a firearm and pointed it at the woman then proceeded to rob her of her personal items.
It is alleged that the men then sexually assaulted the woman before dropping her off along the road way. The incident happened about 8:20 pm.
The police said Smart was arrested during an operation in Trelawny on Thursday June 10, and subsequently charged on June 15.
