Tributes flow for beloved high level bodyguard killed in fiery crash in Jamaica
Tributes have been flowing in from around the island for police officer Marlon Smith who died on Thursday (June 25) in a road collision in Trelawny.
Smith, who served as part of Finance Minister Nigel Clarke’s security team, was involved in a three vehicle crash along the Rock Main road in Falmouth.
Following Smith’s passing scores of individuals, including Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport,Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, took to social media to share their condolences.
“Sgt. Marlon Smith, we mourn with your family on your sudden and tragic death. Our prayers for blessings on your soul and, strength for your family and colleagues,” said Grange in a Facebook post late Thursday.
“Marlon words can’t explain our pain tonight. The entire North West St Andrew mourns tonight,” added another on Facebook.
Friends who knew Smith well described him as a loving father, who was always optimistic about the future.
“Woooow condolences mi boss very kind person he loved his boys,” said one friend on Facebook.
“School mate you would never pass and not say hello, no matter what the circumstances. Your achievement and contribution has been immense. I thank you and, your family for your solid contribution to Jamaica in a positive way. I honour you always and forever my friend Marlon,” added another.
It is understood that the vehicle Smith was travelling burst into flames upon impact.
While the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) confirmed the incident, they noted that details were limited.
