‘Trevor’ is the ‘choice’ in Charles Hussey Trophy

‘Trevor’ is the ‘choice’ in Charles Hussey Trophy

One of the more accomplished jockeys to ride at Caymanas Park, Charles Hussey, a winner of 1,239 races, will be honoured on Monday (July 5) with a race being run in his name.

The three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance call for the Charles Hussy OD Trophy carries a total purse of $1 million and will be run at five furlongs (1000m) straight.

It is fitting that the race named after Hussey is a five-straight call as during his career, the jockey built quite a reputation as a specialist over this course.

Below is the analysis of the runners.

1. RAS EMANUEL: (9 b h by Burning Marque – Pleasant Princess) – Was expected to do a lot more than his unplaced effort behind Mahogany on last over six furlongs. Ras Emanuel, now getting on in years at nine faces a harder task now and is going to be left behind, especially from the one draw.

2. RAW LIQUID: (5 b h by Liquidity – Good Investment) – Holding his own at this level but a winning effort from Raw Liquid is not possible. Note the tongue tie is on.

3. DRUMMER BOY: (6 b h by Natural Selection – Preach Preacher) – Returns to competitive racing after a break of 77 days and may need this run to find himself again. It should be noted, however, that Drummer Boy loves the straight course. Note the blinkers are on.

4. TREVOR’S CHOICE: (5 dkb h by Blue Pepsi Lodge – Queen Adira) – Has been slowly getting his act together and can be considered as a better runner than these. Trevor’s Choice was beaten by three lengths by Horse of the Year Nipster in the Saint Cecelia Cup over 6 ½ furlong (1,300m) on May 15. Based on that performance, Trevor’s Choice, who steps down in class, should be an easy winner of this trophy race.

5. UNIVERSAL BOSS: (5 b h by Casual Trick – Electrifying) – Consistent horse who was third behind God of Love and Laban on June 7 over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m). Universal Boss likes the straight, holding two wins, and now with the bustling Dane Nelson in the saddle, can run the principals close.

6. HEIROFFIRE: (5 b m by Storm Craft – Thisgirlisonfire) – Winning chances are limited.

7. SALVATION: (4 gr f by Blue Pepsi Lodge – My Morning Prayer) – Did well to reach this level but winning first time of asking is going to be difficult.

8. LABAN: (4 b c by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Has been running some good races of late. Laban is earning his spurs at this level and that process continues on Monday. Expect Laban to hit the board.

9. SALAH: (5 ch h by Traditional – Anna) – Cannot get a winning vote.

10. CAPTUREMYSHIP: (7 b h by Adore The Gold – Mayken Joy) – Another consistent runner who enjoys this galloping course. Breaking from the outside draw, Capturemyship is poised for a good effort.

Charles Hussey
