Benzly cruises with Kingston Venom

Benzly Hype is pleased with the response that he has received to his latest project, the Kingston Venom rhythm, which features several dancehall artistes.

“We released the lead single, Venom, featuring me and Wasp, and the reaction has been incredible; mi start get dubplate work from the song already, everybody is feeling the rhythm. Nobody cyaan test this rhythm. This ah the baddest rhythm for 2022; the sound, energy and tone change. This is the one for the summer,” said Benzly Hype.

The project was released on the Hyyype! Muzik and Mojo Majestic Ent labels on April 8.

The artistes on the project include Tanto Metro and Devonte with Catatonic; Zinthos — The Chain; Innocent Kru — 1111 Bus It; Ssense — B—y Jaw Jump; Tugga War — Mi Swagga; Suspense — Dead; Harry Toddler — Dancehall Again; Don Mafia — Kingston Town; Jahbell — Money Money; and King Pin — Don’t Come.

“Right now, a lot of artistes have been calling me for the rhythm. Red Rat voiced over the weekend,” Benzly Hype said.

Dancehall fans are particularly excited about Zinthos song, The Chain — a remake of the Impossible Train, a breakout hit from the 1990s. Recorded by the Innocent Kru quartet of the late Dapsie Daps, Copper Kid, Macka Head, and Benzly Hype, the song was an international dancehall hit, and the video was added to rotation at MTV and BET, allowing the youngsters to tour with rapper Cam’ron in the USA. The quartet followed up with hits such as Not Guilty and Cha Cha, both produced by the legendary Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare.

“When it comes to the new Train, The Chain and Zinthos it was an organic thing was never planned. My road manager Ricton carried him to the studio and, on introducing himself, he started to tell me how I was his father’s favourite artiste and he grew up on Innocent Kru. He then started to just deejay all of our songs word for word,” Benzly Hype said.

He said what happened next was almost magical.

“When the rhythm started, the first thing out his mouth was: ‘Look up on the stage it’s a bird, it’s a plane; check out mi gold teeth, check out my gold chain.’ Mi feel the energy lift up in the place. I was like, okay then, this is it, and we voice it. When he left, I added the girls vocal and intro… and so there was The Chain,” Benzly Hype explained.
