Carifta Games: Bahamas’ Strachan sets javelin record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Keyshawn Strachan of The Bahamas set the first record of the 49th Carifta Games that started on Saturday at the National Stadium in Kingston after winning the Under-20 boys javelin with a record 79.89 metres on his first attempt.
It was a personal best for Strachan, beating his previous 78.63m and also extended his World Under-20 lead in the event surpassing the old record of 78.28m set in 2016 by Anderson Peters of Grenada.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Anthony Diaz took the silver with 63.69m and Grenada’s Cameron Anthony, the bronze with 60.80m.
Meanwhile, Savianna Joseph of the British Virgin Island won the Under-17 girls shot put with a mark of 13.54m, beating Jamaica’s Nastassia Burrell at 13.10m and Terrell McCoy of the Bahamas at 13.00m.
