CARIFTA GAMES: Girls’ U-20 team in a world record run as Jamaica sweeps 4x100m relays
Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica, led by the girls’ Under-20 team in a world record run, swept all four 4X100m relays at the 49th Carifta Games at the National Stadium in Kingston Sunday evening.
The powerhouse Under-20 team of Edwin Allen trio Serena Cole, Tia and Tina Clayton and Hydel’s Brianna Lyston, produced a breath-taking performance to win their event in a new Under-20 World Record of 42.58 seconds.
They lowered the previous mark of 43.27 set by Jamaica in Niarobi, Kenya in 2021 and Jamaica’s own Carifta record of 44.08 set in 2011.
Barbados (45.36) and Trinidad and Tobago (46.12) took the minor placings.
Another powerhouse quartet of Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, Bryan Levell, DeAndre Daley and Sandrey Davison, running in that order, stormed to victory in the boys’ Under-20 event, stopping the clock in 39.15 seconds. Trinidad and Tobago (40.41) and Cayman Islands (40.72) were second and third.
The Under-17 girls team anchored by Edwin Allen’s Theianna Lee Terrelonge, got the baton around smoothly to run away from rivals, stopping the clock in new world lead of 45.38 seconds, ahead of The Bahamas (47.13) and Trinidad and Tobago (48.19)
Wolmer’s Boys’ Gary Card ran a blistering second leg that propelled the Under-17 boys to victory in 41.74 seconds, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago (42.77) and the fast-finishing Cayman Islands (43.40).
