WhatsApp introduces Communities
WhatsApp introduces Communities, a new way for groups to privately organise and share info with their members. Communities group chats will handle up to 32 participants.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained, “We built WhatsApp Communities to make it much easier to organise all your group chats and find information. You’ll be able to bring different groups together into one community; for example, in addition to individual groups for different classes, you might have one overall community for parents at a school with a central place for announcements and tools for admins,” Zuckerberg said.
Users will also be able to share even bigger files with a size cap of 2GB, up from 100MB. At the same time, group admins will be able to remove messages from chats if someone says something problematic.
The Communities feature in WhatsApp will begin to roll out “slowly” over the coming months. Meta plans to add Communities to its other apps with messaging features, including Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram.
