Dream 11 T10 Blast takes off with keen battles

Despite wet weather for much of this week, the inaugural Dream 11 Jamaica T10 Blast has got underway with some keenly contested battles at Sabina Park in Kingston.

In Wednesday’s second game of the double-header, it went down to the last ball as Middlesex Titans edged out Cornwall Warriors by four wickets.

Scores: Warriors 97-5 (10 overs); Titans 98-6 (10 overs)

Batting first, the Warriors made 97-5 from their allotted 10 overs thanks to Kerry Holness’ unbeaten 44 from 27 balls. Former West Indies left-arm swing bowler Krishmar Santokie claimed 2-10 for the Titans.

In reply, the Titans scrambled to 98-6 after Jamie Merchant, who batted at number six, belted a 19-ball 40 not out.

Skipper Michael Frew was outstanding for the Warriors, taking 4-8 in the losing cause.

In the opening contest on Wednesday, Surrey Royals beat Middlesex United Stars by 13 runs.

Scores: Royals 101-8 (10 overs); United Stars 88-6 (10 overs)

Taking first strike, Surrey Royals were pushed to 101-8 by opener Leroy Lugg’s swashbuckling 24-ball 51.

Alwyn Williams, Damani Sewell and Ojay Shields all grabbed two wickets for the United Stars.

In response, the United Stars could only manage 88-6 with Williams (37) and Anthony Walters, who struck 35 not out, leading the scorers.

The Royals pace bowler Nicholson Gordon captured 4-21 to derail the United Stars’ run chase.

In the curtain-raiser on Tuesday’s rain-affected opening day of the tournament at Sabina Park, Surrey Kings beat Middlesex Titans by five runs under the Duckworth & Lewis method.

Scores: Kings 133-6 (10 overs); Titans 63-1 (5 overs)

Batting first, the Kings made an impressive 133-6 from their allotted 10 overs. Kennar Lewis and Brad Barnes blasted 34 and 30, respectively. The Titans off spinner Merchant grabbed 1-20.

The Titans replied with 63-1 after they were required to get 68 runs in five overs due to rain interruption.

Tristan Coleman top-scored with 30 not out for the Titans, while Jeavor Royal had 1-8 for the Kings.

In the second game, Cornwall Warriors beat Surrey Risers by two runs under the Duckworth and Lewis method.

Scores: Risers 98-6 (10 overs); Warriors 47-2 (5 overs)

Taking first strike, the Risers made 98-6 from 10 overs but just failed to restrict the Warriors, who made 47-2 after five overs. The Warriors won because they were two runs ahead of the adjusted target.
