#Champs2026: STETHS’ Santino Distin hopes to upgrade high jump silver to gold

KINGSTON, Jamaica— Santino Distin of St Elizabeth Technical will hope to upgrade his silver medal won last year to gold when he competes in the finals of the boys Class 1 high jump on Saturday’s final day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

Distin, who transferred from Herbert Morrison Technical to STETHS, was one of nine athletes who achieved the automatic qualifying height of 1.95m on Friday.

Twice this season, the national junior champion in 2025 has equalled his personal best 2.05m but had one failure in qualifying.

Wolmers Boys’ Kabiki Thomas, Cornwall College’s Carlyle Tinglin who achieved a personal best and Kingston College’s Michael Neil were flawless.

Meanwhile, Happy Grove High’s Jaquan Souden, who is ranked number one with a best of 2.06m, had to retire from the competition after one attempt at 1.90m.
