Garvey Maceo U-16s put perfect record on the line
Garvey Maceo will take a perfect record into today’s semi-finals of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) rural area Under-16 football competition against Frome Technical at Manchester High.
Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
Garvey Maceo have been unbeaten all season and will go into the game as favourites to advance to Friday’s final against the winner of the other semi-final between long-time rivals Clarendon College and Glenmuir High. That all-Clarendon clash is slated for Foga Road, also starting 3:00 pm.
Garvey Maceo have had their own way all season long, winning all their games in the first round. They were victorious in all three games in the quarter-final round to be the only team with a perfect win record.
Frome Technical, the only school outside of the parish of Clarendon in the last four, were the first qualifiers for the semi-finals after winning their first two games.
Clarendon College had gone into their final game of the quarter-final round, hoping for a favourable result in another game and the football gods smiled on them.
Clarendon College topped Zone One on goal difference after their 2-1 win over Christiana High, as Cornwall College, who only needed a draw against winless Charlemont High, were beaten 1-0 at home by a late penalty.
Glenmuir beat Zone leaders Manchester High to finish with seven points, one more than the losers, and will hope to extend their unbeaten run today.
Extra time and penalties, if needed, will be used to decide the winners of each game if they are tied at the end of regulation time.
