J’cans Wills, Lloyd run away with collegiate awards
Jamaicans Safin Wills of Purdue Univerity and Brandon Lloyd of Barton Count College were named athletes of the week for the Big10 Conference and the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA), respectively, earlier this week.
Wills, the former Jamaica College jumper who transferred from Texas Tech this year, won the men’s triple jump at the Indiana Invitational last weekend with a personal best 16.20m (0.3m/s).
Wills’ mark leads the Big10 Conference and is the sixth best in the NCAA so far.
This was his second athlete of the week honour, his first was earlier this season, in late March.
The massive 7” 1’ Lloyd, formerly of Clarendon College, continued his impressive season with a personal best 58.61m throw to win the discus throw at the John Jacobs Invitational in Oklahoma last weekend, at Barton programme record and number seven all times at the junior college level.
Prior to last weekend, he had a best of 56.70m, 10th best all times and also has a best of 17.27m in the shot put.
