Broken leg will keep middle distance runner Pryce in the USA
PHILADELPHIA, USA — It was unsure up to Saturday whether Holmwood Technical’s middle distance runner Samantha Pryce will be able to travel back with the team to Jamaica from the Penn Relays on Monday.
Pryce, the ISSA Champs double gold medallist and Carifta Games medallist, suffered a broken leg as she competed in the Championships of America 4x800m final at the 126th Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Friday afternoon.
Holmwood Technical Head Coach Dave Anderson told the Jamaica Observer Sunday that she had undergone surgery but they were not sure whether she would be able to travel with the team when they leave on Monday.
He said adequate arrangements will be made to ensure the athlete’s well-being is taken care of.
Pryce fell on the metal rail that runs in the middle of the nine-lane track and had to be taken off by medical personnel. A member of the management team later confirmed to the Jamaica Observer that she had suffered and broken leg and would undergo surgery at a local hospital.
Pryce, who was running her final race for Holmwood Technical, won the 2,000m steeplechase and the 3000m Open at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Champs earlier in April.
She also won a gold and a silver medal for Jamaica at the recent 49th Carifta Games held in Jamaica, having been victorious in the Under-20 girls’ 3,000m and placing second in the 1500m.
