Market Bag: Prices slightly higher this week at ‘Curry’
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Food prices are slightly higher this week at the Coronation Market.
Among the prices shoppers should expect are $200 per pound for tomato, $220 for onion, $150 for sweet pepper, $150 for escallion and $400 for lettuce.
Still, popular vendor Richard, otherwise known as ‘Bammy Kings’, says the prices are reasonable, citing the big turnout at the market this week as evidence.
“Now is the best time to shop. Everything is right now, right price. And because the rain is falling, there is more reaping and more things are coming in,” he said.
OBSERVER ONLINE reporter Kelsey Thomas went to the downtown Kingston landmark with a budget of $2,500. Check out what she could afford.
