Cops suspect suicide after man found dead at MoBay primary school
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Police are probing a suspected suicide after a man is believed to have killed himself in a female bathroom at the Catherine Hall Primary School in West Green, Montego Bay, St James.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Andre Nicholson, a shopkeeper from Catherine Hall.
Nicholson is believed to have taken his life between 9:50 pm Saturday and 3 Sunday afternoon. A firearm with several rounds, was reportedly taken from the now-deceased.
Reports are that a security guard at the school saw Nicholson on the compound around 9:50 on Saturday night, shortly before he concluded duties there.
On Sunday afternoon, the security guard returned to the location and was making routine checks when he discovered Nicholson’s body in the Grade 5 and 6 female bathroom.
Nicholson, the police said, was lying on his right side in a pool of blood clutching a firearm in his right hand with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the right side of his head.
The firearm was retrieved and found to be a Glock 19 pistol affixed with a 17-round capacity magazine containing fourteen 9mm cartridges.
The body was removed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where doctors pronounced Nicholson dead.
Initial investigations have unearthed that the now-deceased was facing financial difficulties and had expressed suicidal thoughts.
Checks at the Firearm Licensing Authority database confirmed that Nicholson was not the holder of a firearm license.
