Garvey Maceo lift rural area U-16 football title
Garvey Maceo High added the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association rural area Under-16 football title to the daCosta Cup crown they won in January, after outscoring Clarendon College 3-2 in the final at the Wembley Centre of Excellence in Clarendon on Friday.
Garvey Maceo ended the season without a blemish, winning all their games. It is their second Under-16 schoolboy title in the last three stagings of the competition after winning in 2018.
They are to face Corporate Area Under-16 winners St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) in the all-island play-off. STATHS had beaten Kingston College in the Corporate Area final.
After a scoreless first half in the 80-minute encounter, Malik Robinson gave Garvey Maceo the lead in the 44th minute. But Clarendon levelled the scores in the 66th minute through Ronaldo Williams.
Shacquille Blackstock restored Garvey Maceo’s lead in the 70th minute, and Christopher Mundle made it 3-1 in the 79th minute of the Clarendon derby.
Clarendon College made things interesting, however, when Deandre Gallimore converted a penalty in time added on, but Garvey Maceo held on for the win.
