Determine launches production house
Singjay Determine recently launched his production company to help expose his songs and fresh talent. Sandy Lane Production is the venture’s name, and its first release is his song, Mi nuh do Dat.
The label is named for the community in which Determine was born and raised in Annotto Bay, St Mary.
“Wi have a lotta exciting things in di works. Wi neva figet where wi come from an’ hopefully wi can help some youths out there,” he said.
Mi nuh do Dat was released in March. Tracks for the single were actually first laid in 2012 in Queens, New York but he said several obstacles prevented it getting out.
“Bwoy, is like a relief. Is like everything come together an’ wi mek things happen,” said Determine.
Through Sandy Lane Production, he plans to enter a different career phase which sees him overseeing his recordings and publishing.
Most dancehall fans associate Determine (given name: Rohan Bennett) with Kette Drum, the 1995 Nyahbinghi single he did with Beenie Man for producer Bobby Digital. It was one of several singles on the popular rhythm which also drove hit songs like Cocoa Tea’s Holy Mount Zion, Seek God by Bounty Killer and ‘Til I’m Laid to Rest by Buju Banton.
Kette Drum was Determine’s third song, following Zion Hill and Full Speed (with Terror Fabulous). It remains his signature.
“Anywhere yuh hear it, is like mi jus’ do it. It’s timeless, still got a great energy,” he said.
