Jamaica reports 89 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica reported 89 new cases of COVID-19 and two fatalities on Monday, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
This pushed the total number of cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic to 130,338 and the death toll to 2,969.
Of the newly reported cases, there were 55 females and 34 males with ages ranging from one month to 91 years.
The cases were recorded in St James (33), Kingston and St Andrew (14), Hanover (12), Westmoreland (11), Clarendon (eight), Trelawny (three), St Ann (two), St Catherine (two), St Mary (two), Manchester (one), and Portland (one).
Meanwhile, the latest deaths are an 89-year-old man from St Catherine and a 68-year-old man from Kingston and St Andrew. Both deaths were recorded in February 2022 and were previously reported under investigation.
The country also recorded 74 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 83,763.
The positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 23.8 per cent.
There are 37 people hospitalised, two of them critically ill.
There are 872 confirmed active cases on the island.
