Eastern champs
LYSSONS Primary captured the 2022 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Eastern Region Primary Schools Athletics Championships which ended at Stadium East on Wednesday.
The school from St Thomas accumulated a combined score of 236 points to lift the trophy.
Lyssons demonstrated over the three days that they were a force to be reckoned with, so the final outcome came as no surprise.
However, they had to repel the challenge of former champions St Richard’s, Harbour View, and Windward Road before they pulled away to victory.
St Richard’s finished second in the combined boys and girls points standings with 198 points, followed by Harbour View (154), Windward Road (123), Clan Carthy (89), New Providence (85), Half-Way-Tree (85), and Mona Heights with 10 points to round out the top 10 schools.
Lyssons were strong in all four classes for girls and boys and captured both sections. They scored 113 points in the girls, followed by St Richard’s 89, Windward Road 86, Harbour View 71, and St Patrick’s 66.
In the boys’ section, the new champions chalked up 123 points ahead of St Richard’s 109, Windward Road 86, Harbour View 83, Clan Carty 49, and Half-Wat-Tree 46 for the top five.
Meanwhile, for coming out triumphantly, Lyssons received $250,000, St Richard’s collected $200,000, Harbour View walked away with $150,000, while schools finishing in fourth to tenth position were awarded $75,000 each.
