‘Blacks’ fatally shot after allegedly pointing gun at police in St Mary
ST MARY, Jamaica – A man who allegedly pointed a firearm at two police officers was fatally shot in Enfield district, Annotto Bay, St Mary on Thursday night.
Dead is 27-year-old, Kemar Duhaney, alias ‘Blacks’ or ‘Tutu’.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 pm in the vicinity of the Enfield Health Centre.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) reported that two officers were on mobile patrol when a man was seen with a knife walking along Enfield Main Road.
It is alleged that the police officers requested to search Duhaney, however, he reportedly pointed a firearm in their direction when they attempted to approach him.
One officer discharged his weapon during this incident, resulting in Duhaney being shot.
He was pronounced dead at the Annotto Bay Hospital.
A 9mm pistol without a serial number was reported as recovered from the deceased man, INDECOM said.
Additionally, the weapon and the hands of the deceased were swabbed for DNA testing.
Initial accounts of the incident were provided by the two officers and witness canvassing was also done by investigators from INDECOM.
In furtherance of the probe, the lawmen were served with notices, pursuant to the INDECOM Act, to provide further statements and/or attend the commission’s office to be interviewed.
