WATCH: Indian president arrives in Jamaica for historic visit
KINGSTON, Jamaica – President of the Republic of India, Ram Nath Kovind, arrived in Jamaica on Sunday afternoon for a historic four-day state visit to the island.
Kovind and wife Savita arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston at approximately 4pm.
He was greeted by Prime Minister Andrew Holdness, Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, Ambassador Sandra Grant Griffiths and Chief of Defence Staff Rear Admiral Antonette Weymss-Gorman.
The visit comes as Jamaica celebrates 60 years of political independence and also marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and India.
President Kovind is the first president of India to visit Jamaica.
