‘No more drama’: Lincoln 3Dot seeks to rebrand
The music career of Lincoln 3Dot, by his own admission, has been driven by controversy, which became such a defining aspect of his persona that it was hard for people to separate his music from the ‘mixup’. Today, however, with some fresh bearings and a new found perspective, the US-based dancehall artiste is hoping to step away from the drama as he looks to establish himself as a serious entertainer.
“Personally, I have grown a lot over the past few years. My perspective on a lot of things have changed and I am just fully-focused on building a career people can take seriously. When i just started in the entertainment business, I was known to be all up in the drama but now I am trying to steer clear of that,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Admitting that he has had some difficulty getting people to see him as a dedicated dancehall artiste, Lincoln says he has learnt the hard way that not all publicity is good.
“With me being controversial, my perspective was that it a work and that people a talk bout me so I must be doing something good. Plus, mi always hear dem say no publicity is bad publicity. But that’s not true,” he said.
“Now, when I am trying to get people to really focus on my music and pay attention to me minus the drama, is like they don’t want to hear it. Is like when people hear mi name, dem just a wonder wah kinda drama this again. That was all they could associate me with and it distract a lot of people from what I am here for.”
Indicating that he has done a lot of soul searching and rebranding, the entertainer says his goal as an artiste is to bring back the joy in dancehall.
“I just want to be clean. I cleaned up a lot of things recently and I want to keep it that way. So, you can expect more gyal songs because I just want to have fun with music and I want people to also have fun,” he said. “Right now mi feel like dancehall in a dark space. People a sing bout scamming, killing, chapping and hard times. The music dull and sad. So weh mi a go fah is more high tempo type songs fi di woman dem fi make dem dance and enjoy dem self.”
Lincoln 3Dot, who is currently promoting songs such as Bang, Bvckshot, Fi Di Gram and Surgery says he is hoping to lead dancehall out of its current ‘dark space’ and into a fun era once more.
“Jamaica is a place of trend so I know the chapping and scamming phase soon pass but mi wah be the one who set the trend when it comes to this. I want to be the one to bring back gyal tune and couple up vibes inna dancehall,” he said.
