THE imbroglio between the Jamaica College (JC) board and the school’s old boys’ association president, Major Basil Jarrett took a new twist on Friday when the Supreme Court granted an injunction barring Jarrett from making statements that members of the board had said were defamatory of them.

The application for the injunction, which lists Jarrett as the sole defendant, was filed on May 4 by nine claimants — namely Wayne Robinson, the school’s acting principal; Michael Bernard, JC board chairman; Lance Hylton; Errol Holmes; Ian Forbes; Jimmy Hylton; Renee Rattray; Anthony Robinson; and Alan Beckford.

The injunction restrains Jarrett, “whether by himself, his servants, agents or otherwise, from publishing, republishing or causing to be published the allegations about the claimants that he published on November 29, 2021, February 28, 2022, March 10, 2022, March 28, 2022 and April 16, 2022, or similar words, until September 22, 2022 or further order of the court”.

The court also ordered Jarrett to pay the legal costs incurred for Friday’s hearing.
