MONTEGO BAY, St James — Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Chetwood Primary will contest Wednesday’s final of the St James Football Association Under-13 final after contrasting wins in Monday’s quarter-final played at Corinaldi Avenue Primary.
Chetwood came from a goal down to beat Flankers Primary 2-1 with goals from Youshane Blythe in their game while Corinaldi Avenue were 2-0 winners over rivals and neighbours Barracks Road Primary, top scorer Carlando Morris getting both goals.
This was Corinaldi Avenue Primary’s sixth consecutive win of the season and they are yet to concede a goal while scoring 50 goals of their own.
The winners will meet on Wednesday to decide the champions after Flankers and Barracks Road meet in the third-place play-offs.
With a lot riding on the results, a spot in the final, both games were tense and all the goals came in the second half of the games.
In the first game, Gregory Williams pounced on a poor clearance from a Chetwood defender in the 49th minute and fired it back past the goalkeeper from close range.
Blythe drew Chetwood level in the 54th minute when a header from a corner and gave them the lead two minutes later when he swept home a ball from just outside the penalty area to complete a good move by Chetwood.
Corinaldi Avenue were made to work in the second game by an organised Barracks Road team, and it took them until the 40th minute before Morris powered home a shot from close range and added a second in time added on to secure the victory.
