Regional travel boost
InterCaribbean Airways’ inaugural flight to Ian Fleming International Airport in St Mary gets a traditional ‘Shower of affection’ on its arrival Thursday. On board the carrier’s Embraer-120 jet, which seats up to 30 passengers, was InterCaribbean Airways’ founder and chairman Lyndon Gardiner who told the Jamaica Observer that the start of the service opens up a whole new gateway for travel within the Caribbean and marks the beginning of sharp increases in stopover regional traffic.
“Rather than having to go back to Panama or the United States, we’re making more direct connections within the Caribbean region and that’s helping to push the movement of goods and services across countries,” he said.
