THE ex-boyfriend of late dancehall artiste Keshan is slated to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court today to answer to murder charges.

The matter was originally set for June 6, but was postponed.

The accused, Toni Martin, who was arrested after two years of investigations by police in the St Catherine South Police Division, was charged last December.

Police reports indicate that Keshan (given name Keneisha Brown) was involved in a heated dispute with Martin at a residence located at Sharper Lane in Old Harbour, St Catherine, on July 20, 2019. The report further states that things became physical and that the singjay allegedly stabbed him and he retaliated by shooting her once to the upper body.

Keshan was later pronounced dead at hospital while Martin was treated and sent home.

In an exclusive interview with the Jamaica Observer in November 2021, Keshan’s mother, Ilene Wright-Brown, contradicted the police’s report and claimed that the deejay did not attack Martin.

Since her debut in 2013, Keshan released several songs including Bubble Up Your Body, Don’t Lie, Kill or Die, and The Goods featuring Vybz Kartel.
