NEW YORK, United States — New York police are now seeking to question a man in relation to the shooting of a young mother as she pushed a three-month-old baby they shared in a stroller on the Upper East Side of New York City on Wednesday.

Reports are that the 20-year-old woman had told relatives she was meeting her baby’s father on the night she was fatally shot in the head.

According to a New York Daily News report, the deceased had been assaulted by the baby’s father during her pregnancy and “wasn’t sure how much she wanted him involved in their child’s life”, relatives said.

The baby’s father has not been named as a suspect, however, police are now trying to locate him for questioning.

No other suspects have been taken into custody in relation to the shooting, but the police believe the killing was targeted.

Noting that she had powder burns on her head, the police said this suggests the killer was in close proximity to her.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, was pushing her baby in a stroller on E 95th St and Lexington Avenue when a man, dressed in black, allegedly stormed up and shot her in the head about 8:30 pm and ran off, the police reported.

She was rushed to the Metropolitan Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her baby was unharmed in the incident but was taken to hospital for evaluation.
