Chivea treats Allman Town students
Jamaican-born, US-based dancehall deejay Chivea brought cheer to 100 students attending summer school at Allman Town Primary School in Kingston last Thursday.
The students were treated to ice cream, cake, and drinks.
“I couldn’t have done this without my wife, Sandy British; my manager, Pinkii Pinkx; and HQ Chiney Gymnastic. They are the ones who really helped to make this possible. It is so good to see the smiling faces of children. This is something I would love to do for other schools with summer classes,” said Chivea.
According to Chivea, the school was selected through his wife’s connection.
Principal of Allman Town Primary La-Toya Nesbitt described the treat as “one in a million”.
“This is our summer school session. Students were out for two long years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so you can just imagine what this means to them?” he said.
The students, who were from grades one to 6, are attending summer classes to fully prepare for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations and improve on their weak areas for the new academic year come September 2022.
The Ministry of Education and Youth’s National Summer School started July 4, 2022. The four-week programme, which ends on July 28, is free of cost to students. It is one of several initiatives being used by the ministry to address gaps in learning caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Students from across all grades at primary and secondary levels who wish to attend will be accommodated.
Chivea, born Chivea Brown, grew up in Linstead, St Catherine. He migrated to Philadelphia, US, in 2008.
His songs include Don’t Trust Friend; Pon Di Side; Massah; and Bubble, featuring Dwayno.
