KINGSTON, Jamaica— Three men were arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition following a seizure of two firearms and 36 assorted rounds of ammunition during a joint police/military operation on William Road, Kingston 5 on Friday, July 15.

Charged are:

· 22-year-old O’Keefe Jones, otherwise called ‘Fret Dem’, a labourer of Jones Lane, Kingston 10,

· 22-year-old Romario Robinson, otherwise called ‘Gaza’, a sales representative of Cromarty Drive, St Catherine and

· 25-year-old Joseph Smith, a customer service representative of Pretoria Road, Kingston 13

Reports from the Denham Town police are that about 10:30 pm, members of the security forces were conducting a vehicular checkpoint operation, when the driver of a motor vehicle- with three men aboard -was signalled to stop.

A search was conducted and one Marco Draco rifle and a magazine containing 22 rounds and one Beretta pistol with a magazine affixed containing 12 rounds were seized. An additional two 9mm rounds were found in the pocket of one of the accused.

All three men were taken into custody and subsequently charged.
