On the Menu: Butcher Block’s Gourmet Deli Panini

Were you to visit an Italian salumeria (delicatessen), you’d be able to create a gourmet sandwich from its selection of cured meats and cheeses. These sandwiches are a reflection of the simplicity and beauty of Italian cuisine. There aren’t many ingredients (mainly fresh bread, cheese, and meat), as what is used is of the highest quality and possess superior taste. At Butcher Block, we’ve taken a page out of the best Italian salumeria and North American gourmet butcher shops and are pleased to offer an array of panini.

For the past few months, deli sandwiches from Rome to Manhattan have populated food accounts and hashtags on social media. You could say that the carb police have taken a break so that the magic of sandwiches can again put a spell on those who love them. Sandwiches have enjoyed popularity for over 2,000 years due to their convenience and versatility. Each Butcher Block panino starts with bakery-fresh bread followed by a schmear of a Stonewall Kitchen condiment, slices of deli meat and cheese. Don’t forget that we are the official distributors for Stonewall Kitchen on the island and these sandwiches are a great way of showcasing the unique flavours of this product line.

Sandwich combinations can be endless, so we’ve taken the guesswork out of the ordering process by crafting four delicious options. You can have turkey and provolone with Stonewall Kitchen Apple Cranberry Chutney; pastrami and mozzarella with Stonewall Kitchen Buttermilk Cracked Peppercorn Dressing; ham and provolone with Stonewall Kitchen Maine Maple Champagne Mustard; and roast beef and mozzarella with Stonewall Kitchen Buttermilk Cracked Peppercorn Dressing. Fun fact: You can substitute provolone for mozzarella and vice versa.

Here’s part one of our panini-making process, shot at our newest location at Barbican Centre.

The ham and provolone sandwich the complex flavours of Stonewall Kitchen Maine Maple Champagne Mustard that accentuate the creaminess of the cheese and the salinity of the ham.
