RACING NEWS FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 2022

PURE HEART ARRIVES IN THE NICK OF TIME

Owned and trained by Dale Murphy, Pure Heart was able to pip to nip Flying Bullet on the wire in a five-year-old and upwards Claiming ($180,000-$150,000) spread going 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).

At the off, Nasdaq Princess (Shavon Townsend) who emerged as the leader going into the half-mile (800m) turn, was chased by Kunama (Chris Mamdeen), Flying Bullet (Ruja Lahoe), The Nextbigting (Samantha Fletcher), and Pure Heart, ridden by Aaron Chatrie.

Turning for home, Pure Heart hugged the inside still off the pace. Passing the furlong marker, Chatrie urged his mount in tight space for a final effort and Pure Heart surged through for the win.

The grey gelding won by ¾ length ahead of Flying Bullet and Nasdaq Princess in a time of 1:12.0.

FIGURE 8 OFF MAKES ANNGELOS A WINNER

Anngelos, racing with the figure eight off after two tamed efforts with that equipment on, came good in a non-winners of three contest for five-year-olds and upwards travelling 7 furlongs (1,400m).

With Dane Dawkins riding for trainer Renex Burrell, Anngelos settled in fourth place down the backstretch behind Toughness (Jordan Barrett), Duke of Springs (Shane Richardson), and Jolly’s Dream (Roger Hewitt).

The top four runners remained the same navigating the home turn until Duke of Springs surged to the front and opened up on the field coming into the drive. With Duke of Springs failing to carry his momentum through, Dawkins produced his mount on the outside of runners and won by 2 ½ lengths at the wire.

Jolly’s Dream finished in second place with Toughness getting third money. The final time was 1:31.3.

PLUTOLOGIST OFF THE MARK AFTER EQUIPMENT CHANGE

Plutologist, after 31 attempts, to the relief of his connections got his head in front at the wire in a native-bred five-year-old and upwards Maiden Condition event over 5 ½ furlongs.

Trained by Lorne Kirlew and ridden by Daniel Thompson, Plutologist, running with the figure-8 on, settled in fourth place at the off behind Run Jaya Run (Dane Dawkins), Crushing Power (Chris Mamdeen), and JNR Jones (Roger Hewitt).

Plutologist made his move going into the half-mile turn going in chase of Run Jaya Run on the headline. In a flash, Plutologist shot to the front approaching the drive and never looked back in the stretch run.

The bay gelding got home by a length and a quarter ahead of JNR Jones and Run Jaya Run. The final time for the race was a pedestrian 1:13.0.

BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR FRESH CASH

Fresh Cash, trained by Steven Todd and ridden by Dane Dawkins, completed a quick double in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($400,000-$300,000) race at 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight.

Fresh Cash tussled with Breaking Storm (Phillip Parchment) and Broken Light (Omar Walker) when the barriers were opened. All three runners came away from rivals with Fresh Cash and Broken Light emerging as the two front runners crossing the dummy rails to the main track.

Broken Light held a slim lead entering the final furlong (200m) but Fresh Cash battled well on the inside to win by a neck at the line. Diligent (Roger Hewitt) came on for third with the final time recorded at 1:02.2.

NINE HORSES CLAIMED

In the first race, Cashbert Khwalsingh claimed Kunama for owner Gilbert Khwalsingh from Delroy Wisdom, Rudolph Hardial claimed Pure Heart for owner Ricardo Durrant from Dale Murphy, and Joseph Thomas claimed Flying Bullet for owner K & A Syndicate from Phillip Elliott. All horses in the first were claimed for $180,000 each.

Norman Smith claimed Diligent for owner Khamoal Nichol from Christopher Pierre from the fourth race for $400,000.

In the fifth race, Phillip Elliott claimed City Counsel for owner Andrew Elliott from Henry Harrison Jr, Byron Davis claimed Killer Bee for himself from Marlon Anderson, Delroy Spencer claimed Dracarys for owner Lawrence McKenley from Keffin Murray, Nicholas Smith claimed Lala Diva for owner Henry Mitto from Enos Brown, and Donovan Phillipps claimed Balazo for owner Brian Phillipps from Fitzgerald Richards. All horses went for $550,000 each.
