Mouttet Mile next for Jordon Reign’s
FOLLOWING Jordon Reign’s romp in the $1.5-million Reggae Trophy feature on Saturday (August 13, 2022), assistant trainer Peter-John Parsard said that all roads lead to the inaugural staging of the Mouttet Mile (Invitational) on December 3.
The lucrative Mouttet Mile carries a total purse of US$125,000, the largest for a single event offered at Caymanas Park.
Meanwhile, Jordon Reign’s — trained by Parsard’s father Ian and ridden by Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas brushed aside rivals with disdain by 2½ lengths in a three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance/Graded Stakes contest going 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight.
“The most important thing is for him [Jordon Reign’s] to win, and he was able to get that done — thankfully. Didn’t quite go to plan as we were hoping to relax him a little more in the race; but it looked like, to us, from the gates opened he went to the lead and that was pretty much it.
“We had a very tough handicap on Saturday — I think the handicappers gave him a really tough time — but thankfully he was able to overcome that and managed to get home a winner on Saturday.
“All plans [are] with him leading to the Mouttet Mile and so from now, until the end of the year, he will be sparingly raced. But, you can expect to see him going a little longer, trying to stretch him out and prepare him for that big race,” Peter-John told The Supreme Racing Guide.
With the exception of Kay Boy (Shane Ellis), who walked out of the gates, it was an even break for every other runner at the start. All six of the other runners in the field showed early speed, with the trio of Jordon Reign’s, She’s A Wonder (Dane Dawkins), and Curlin’s Affair (Christopher Mamdeen) being the front-runners.
Coming across the dummy rails to the main track for the last two furlongs of the contest, Jordan Reign’s picked up the tempo and then drew off for a comfortable win, his third on the trot. The Mosler–Dearie Be Good offspring won ahead of Curlin’s Affair and stablemate She’s Wonder in a time of 59.0.
“The instruction was to stay right there, about a length off the leader, and then in the last two, take over the race. But as Dick [Cardenas] told me, from the gates opened he was gone. He said there was no way he could hold him, he did the best he could,” said Parsard.
