Bent on making a change
KINGSTON, Jamaica – More than 20 inner-city children were schooled in various areas of the performing arts while receiving valuable life lessons at a recently concluded summer camp.
Dubbed “Dance Dynamics: Healing a Generation through the Arts”, the camp was hosted by the Bent on Hope Foundation at the Seaview Gardens Primary School in St Andrew from July 11 to August 12.
It involved activities such as sign language, drumming, costume design, dub-poetry and drama.
Founder of the Bent on Hope Foundation and trained dance instructor, Sasha Gaye Harris-Bent said the idea behind the initiative was to teach marginalised youths important life skills via the performing arts, adding that special prizes were awarded as incentives to the children for qualities such as leadership and punctuality.
