THE Bahamas-based cloud services provider Cloud Carib has thrown its support behind the Caribbean Single ICT Space initiative.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) and the Government of The Bahamas last week, which was observed as CTU ICT Week, committing to supporting the vision of a Single ICT Space that enhances the environment for investment and production by building the digital economy by 2030.

The Caribbean Single ICT Space initiative is a policy directive from the Caricom Heads of Government, issued in 2014, with a view to establish “an ICT-enabled borderless space that fosters economic, social and cultural integration for the betterment of Caribbean citizens”. The order also called for the “development and documentation of the Vision and Roadmap for a Caricom Single ICT Space”.

“We, all members of the CTU, should be driven to protect future generations. And how we build protection for future generations is by driving a hyper-competitive market and envisioning not the services of today, but those that will protect the future generations yet born,” Cloud Carib Chief Executive Officer Scott MacKenzie said during Wednesday’s press conference.

He added:”This MOU is simply one member’s commitment to the member states, that there is a company dedicated to the region’s vision of a single ICT space and our business is focused on realising that vision with each member state before 2030. The CTU is our vehicle of collaboration and if this event has proven anything to me, it is the commitment of member states to realise the vision and not only discuss and debate change, but act and prove to the citizens and peoples of the region that we can make it happen before 2030.”

For its contribution, Cloud Carib has pledged to deliver services that align with sovereign cloud, data residency, data sovereignty, mission critical services, and cybersecurity as CTU members states drive digital transformation.

Commenting on behalf of the CTU, Secretary General Rodney Taylor expressed optimism with the signing of the MOU with Cloud Carib while noting that “with regionally deployed ICT infrastructure we’re trying to simplify approaches that we’re taking across the region to move our regional governments forward”.
