Like many artistes, Jim Kelly hopes to become a popular name in Jamaica for dancehall and reggae music. Unlike others, however, the up-and-coming artiste is well on his way as he says he has seen constant growth in his fan base and following on his streaming platforms.

The dancehall/reggae artiste, given name Jim Junior Hosang, said that in recent months he has seen many gains in his music downloads, especially since collaborating with Bad Gyal Jade on a song called ‘Bedroom’.

“In the last couple of months, things have been really good. I did a collab with Bad Gyal Jade called ‘Bedroom’ and I think that is what really took off and got me some exposure and views. Currently, I am at 23,000 people in a fan base on VEVO and over 10.2 million views and counting,” Jim Kelly disclosed.

He told OBSERVER ONLINE that while he started pursuing a career as an artiste in 2015, he was always interested in music, which led to him becoming a producer and artiste manager in 2012 when he discovered Kalado.

He ultimately decided to become a recording artiste when he realised that he had what it takes to make a name for himself in the industry.

“Music has always been my passion since high school when I used to pen songs for concerts and showcase my talent to friends and schoolmates. I migrated to Canada but returned to Jamaica in 2015 where I opened my recording studio called Reallinx Records and started producing myself,” the artiste said.

“From working with other artistes as a producer, I realised that I had what it took to be an artiste as well. I can write a song, since I often wrote the songs and gave to other artistes, along with the melody and stuff. So, I thought why not be an artiste myself and invest in myself instead of investing in some artistes where I am not seeing any return,” he added.

Jim Kelly said that in an effort to reach his goal of being a household name in dancehall/reggae music, he has had a very busy six months as he has released up to five songs over that period. He added that the reception of his music keeps him going as he has seen where people are gravitating toward his sound.

“The reception to my music has been great, people are loving my music. They are catching on to it so they are slowly becoming fans. I can see the increase in my listenership and views on a daily basis. I also do a variety of songs on different topics so people can draw inspiration or a vibe from the different kinds of songs that I do. I don’t limit myself to one topic or idea,” Jim Kelly told OBSERVER ONLINE.

He said his latest release ‘KingGallis’, has become a fan favourite and has joined the ranks with ‘Te Amo’ and ‘Paradise’. ‘KingGallis’, he said, is a follow-up to another single titled ‘Mind pon mi Money’, which was in heavy rotation in Jamaica last year on radio stations and mixtapes.
