President of Americas Netball Marva Bernard says she will not be seeking re-election as head of the organisation at next week’s annual general meeting (AGM).

The AGM, scheduled for October 14 and 15, will be staged at Liguanea Club in New Kingston.

Bernard, a former president of Netball Jamaica, has been the president of Americas Netball for the past four years.

“I believe in term limits,” said Bernard. “I believe that older people like myself must… step aside and continue to mentor the younger leaders to take over the reins and provide guidance if and when the opportunities arise,” she said.

“Sharing one’s experiences is what I want to do next. I have a lot of mentees and I look forward to the joy of imparting my experiences. They should learn from mine, don’t repeat them, but make new ones of their own from which their own growth development will come,” Bernard added.

The veteran administrator pointed out that her administration has made significant strides in developing the game across the region despite the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“We achieved a lot and during COVID we spent the time preparing leaders,” said Bernard. “But I thought we were not able to achieve all that we set out to achieve in the area of umpiring but we completed our strategic plans.”

“I am feeling satisfied and I am looking forward to my final retirement; there is no coming back after this,” Bernard went on.

Dr Bridget Adams from Trinidad and Tobago and Nisha Craigwell from the Barbados Netball Association are set to vie for the presidency of Americas Netball at the AGM.
