Trelawny footballer gunned down at shop in his community
TRELAWNY, Jamaica- The Falmouth police have launched a manhunt for two bikers following a gun attack which left a footballer dead in his community Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Valbert Campbell of Cooper Pen, Trelawny.
The police reported that about 9:20pm, Campbell was a patron at a shop in his community when a motorcycle with two men drove up. The pillion rider, who brandished a firearm, allegedly disembarked and opened fire on Campbell, hitting him multiple times to the upper parts of his body and his head, just as he stepped out of the business establishment.
The men then made their escape on the motorcycle which headed in the direction of Duncans.
No motive has so far been established for the deadly attack.
Between January and October 1, the Trelawny Police Division recorded some 28 murders, which was 16 or 133 per cent more than the 12 over the same period last year.
