Bad Market lands Portland marlin tourney
The annual Mayberry Investments Limited (MIL) sponsored Superstars of Port Antonio (SOPA) Marlin Tournament has officially come to an end after four days of intense and friendly rivalry.
The Portland-based event saw a total of 13 boats competing for the top prize of $750,000 at the Errol Flynn Marina.
Robert Stewart, organiser of the tournament, thanked MIL for its invaluable contribution to the tournament.
“I have nothing but admiration for the Superstars Marlin Tournament’s title sponsors, Mayberry Investments Limited. They have made this tournament a success with their vital contribution. With their hands on deck, we were able to execute well. We look forward to another successful tournament to come,” he said.
The Errol Flynn Marina, which was brought to life as all participants came out to celebrate the winners and the tournament’s success, saw the tournament come to a halt with Bad Market as the victor with a whopping 900 points. The group received additional rewards and surprises in addition to the grand prize. As a result of their accomplishment, the team has received an invitation to represent Jamaica at the Offshore World Championship Fishing Tournament in Costa Rica in early 2023.
Also, the second place contestants left with a $450,000, whilst Reckless, which finished in third place, received $300,000.
Christine Benjamin, vice-president of sales & client relations at MIL, said: “Mayberry Investments Limited is thrilled to support such a fantastic event. The company has always been aware of the tournament’s enormous potential, especially in light of the measures it made to have a good effect on the economy of Port Antonio and the neighbouring areas,” she said.
Additionally, Benjamin lamented the two-year hiatus that COVID-19 imposed on the event, saying, “We are thrilled to be here and we are even more thrilled to have worked with SOPA on this amazing event. We would like to take this time to thank everyone who participated and helped make this competition a success. Mayberry is eager to see what the tournament’s future holds. We anticipate the tournament’s upcoming staging with equal happiness,” she remarked.
Mayberry Investments Limited continues to lend its support to the sports fraternity in Jamaica as it continues to aid in national development. The company remains steadfast in its quest to be a champion for sports in the corporate space.
